About

A practice grounded in compassion, authentic connection, and the belief that no one should have to navigate life’s difficult seasons alone.

Hi, I’m Peta-Gay. If you’ve found your way here, chances are you may be carrying something heavy and searching for support, clarity, or simply a place to exhale.

One thing I’ve come to understand through both personal and professional experience is that the human experience inevitably includes pain, grief, uncertainty, and moments that leave us feeling overwhelmed or alone. None of us are immune to hardship. I certainly am not.

As an immigrant and mother to a child with a debilitating disability, I have personally experienced the emotional weight that can come with navigating complex life circumstances while trying to hold everything together. Those experiences deepened my understanding of how isolating life can sometimes feel, particularly when others around us may not fully understand what we are carrying behind closed doors.

Years ago, I created a blog to support families navigating challenges similar to ours. Through that experience, I noticed something powerful: although our stories and circumstances may differ, many people quietly carry the same fears, questions, exhaustion, and longing to feel understood.

Too often, the individuals who need support the most never reach out. Some hesitate because they fear judgment, believe no one could truly understand, or simply do not know where to begin.

As both a therapist and a person of faith, I believe there is deep value in hope, connection, and compassionate support during life’s most difficult seasons. Research consistently shows that human beings are wired to seek meaning, safety, and belonging, especially during times of distress. Healing rarely happens in isolation. We heal in safe relationships, through authentic connection, and in spaces where we feel seen, heard, and accepted. My faith has strengthened my belief that even in the midst of pain, healing, growth, and restoration are possible.

It was from this understanding that Haven of Hope Counselling and Psychotherapy was born: a place grounded in compassion, authenticity, and the belief that no one should have to navigate life’s struggles alone.

Today, I provide psychotherapy for children, teens, and adults experiencing anxiety, stress, trauma, grief, emotional regulation challenges, neurodiversity-related concerns, and other mental health difficulties. My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, and rooted in meeting people exactly where they are. You do not have to have everything figured out before reaching out for support. Sometimes the first step toward healing is simply allowing yourself to be supported.

When you feel ready, I invite you to connect with Haven of Hope Counselling and Psychotherapy and begin your journey toward healing, resilience, and renewed hope.

What to Expect

The Therapeutic Process

Therapy is collaborative and responsive to your needs. These steps offer a helpful guide to how our work may unfold together.

  1. Step 1

    Initial Contact

First point of connection with your therapist. This step helps determine therapeutic fit.

  2. Step 2

    Consultation / Screening

A brief conversation exploring what brings you to therapy, your therapist’s scope of practice, and whether to move forward together or offer referrals.

  3. Step 3

    Intake & Assessment

We understand your story, history, and challenges to build a foundation. This can span one to two sessions and focuses on a holistic view of your experience.

  4. Step 4

    Goal Setting & Treatment Planning

Together, we outline actionable steps designed to address your therapeutic goals and make the work more focused.

  5. Step 5

    Active Therapeutic Work

This is often the longest phase, where meaningful change happens. We explore using proven clinical approaches, check progress, and adjust as needed.

  6. Step 6

    Transition / Maintenance Phase

Therapy shifts from intensive work toward maintenance. You may rely less on therapy and more on internal and external supports to build independence.

  7. Step 7

    Closure / Termination

An intentional and clinically important step. We reflect on your progress and growth, and whether you feel ready to end therapy.

  8. Step 8

Follow-Up or Return to Therapy (Optional)

Completely optional and may not be needed. Support remains available whenever life introduces new hurdles.

Important Themes Across the Entire Process

Therapeutic Alliance

The relationship between you and your therapist is one of the strongest predictors of positive outcomes.

Safety & Trust

Everyone moves at a different pace depending on their history, readiness, and nervous system capacity.

Collaboration

Effective therapy is a shared journey. Healing includes your active voice and willingness to work together.

Non-Linear Growth

Healing often involves progress, setbacks, reflection, and revision over time. That is a normal part of the process.
